"After 20 minutes I thought "Oh God, what have I gotten myself into." And finally, after the show ended, I thought "Wow, I really enjoyed that."

Being Dead (Don Quixote) | Review

This is the most Fringe show I’ve seen so far. What do I mean by that? After ten minutes I still wasn’t sure if the show had actually started. After 15 minutes I wasn’t sure if some things were part of the show. After 20 minutes I thought “Oh God, what have I gotten myself into.” And finally, after the show ended, I thought “Wow, I really enjoyed that.”

Much of the writing is ripped from both high and low literature (though you may not realise), but despite this, it feels like an incredibly personal performance. And I think it *is* one.

It also feels cohesive despite the variety of sources ripped from, thanks to everything being performed with an air of consistent femininity, even the more vulgar moments. The show is about owning femininity (my interpretation, anyway), and I think it accomplished that.

What I loved most is how it all came together to have a dream-like, fantasy quality to it (despite some darker moments). As it progressed, I really felt like I was drifting into another person’s world, one with a surreal quality that wasn’t quite like my own.

Definitely check it out if you’re looking for something more Fringey.
