The audience were naked. The technician was naked. The cast were naked. Not some sort of figurative naked but in fact not wearing any clothes, though Tobias had a belt, tie, shoes and suspenders on, Kerith brushed her hair and Mark, no Mark was definitely naked.
A tale of propaganda, juvenilism and referencing, Tolstoy’s novella provides rich pickings for a starkers one-man+no women+hidden musician/projectionist show.
An extraordinary examination of the extremities of the human psyche and a critical assault on the State Theatre Company of South Australia’s production of a similar name, The Kreutzer Sonata was also virtuosic story-telling of immense power and intensity. And like the STCSA show claimed it too was a literary and live music feast, including Beethoven’s famous Violin Sonata No 9 but mainly just excerpts from Chris Brown and Rhianna tracks.
