FAQ

The Pavilion (aka the Royal Victorian Theatre, the Theatre Royal, the Victoria Saloon, and The Theatre) was Melbourne’s first theatre and opened in February 1842 The colonial secretary in Sydney would not license a professional company until July 1842. This is not that theatre. This is not that professional company.

MKA’s PAVILION is a three-month long, one-room, pop-up performing arts centre / bar / there’s a miniature Tudor village at the front door.

Incandescent theatre, weird live music, troubling art, and cheap drinks.

Get in, lovers, we’re doing witchcraft.

THIS IS THE TIME

The PAVILION’s first event has been foretold to occur on JAN I, MMXXII and the final glorious closing occur on MAR XXVII, MMXXII. Some shows will be on early. Some will be on late. Some will last all day. Announcements are ongoing. The future is un/certain.

THIS IS THE SPOT

MKA’s PAVILION is in Fitzroy Gardens. Which aren’t really in Fitzroy, so much as the mysterious and rarely discussed suburb of East Melbourne. Near the Fairies Tree, and the Miniature Tudor Village.

[It’s just of Wellington Parade, East Melbourne VIC 3002]

THERE ARE TIX

Some tickets cost money. Some tickets are free. Some have concession prices. Some have group discounts. If you can’t afford to come, please email us and we can sneak you in.

THERE ARE GOD/S

Acid rain, hail or shine MKA’s Fitzroy Gardens PAVILION will be open for you. The venue is indoors. But to get there you need to come through the park. In the event of an emergency weather event we’ve begun stockpiling cans of beans, ammunition, and 3ply toilet paper.

THERE ARE BASTARDS

MKA’s Fitzroy Gardens PAVILION is a super special spring/summer sanctuary and all are safe within. That said, we’re near the CBD so always be prepared to hide your identity from malevolent city police, unhinged antivaxxers, and charity salespeople.

The Pavilion at Fitzroy Gardens is managed by Creative Spaces, a program of the City of Melbourne
