Now MKA bring SIDE EFFECT to the the Melbourne Fringe Festival and it plays in a dirty, laneway behind the Fringe Hub at North Melbourne Town Hall. The reins have been handed over to Tobias Manderson-Galvin, co-founder and co-Creative Director of MKA: Theatre of New Writing; an artist known for controversy and notoriety on and off stage.
It’s Fortitude Valley of the Shadow of Death;
it’s Campbell Newmann Soup;
It’s Brisneyland baby!!!
SIDE EFFECT is somewhere between a late 90s MTV nu-metal video clip and a police report. Somewhere between the most important meal of the day and the first time you passed out with out any pants in a share house backyard after playing ‘Goon Of Fortune’ with a hill hoist clothesline and a shiny, sack of wine.
The stories are about young love, young lust, and young lurid fantasies.
The text of SIDE EFFECT has been scripted by four bright, young QLD playwrights including the fantastic Maxine Mellor (The Wizard of Oz, Anna Robi and the House of Dogs, Magda’s Fascination with Wax Cats) and is at times as real as any other laneway in Melbourne on a weekend at 3am and at times is pure invention of some of the most incredible young writers in Australia.
